An attempt at compassion is an attempt to relate to a person at a level deeper than - and beyond - what is shown on the surface, in ways unrelated to one’s own needs, so that the person feels seen and accepted.
It is an attempt to help guide the person towards their own centre - true, still, joyous - and must be underpinned by one’s steadfast trust in the existence of such a centre within everyone.
